structure

we have decided on a triangular module, that relates back to our earlier worktesselated into a wall, and triple layered for structural strength.
the final structure will be cylindrical, with the air blower and generator concealed in the centre.

air blower

we managed to get a 1HP air blower for our structure. we tested it out on our first triangular module.

worked well, with no problems of over heating evident.

helium tests

we began to test out different ways in which we could get our structure up and standing. First was helium.

we tested how much weight (how many bags) could be held up. and how it recorded it's movement inside and outside.

mid sem crit 23/08/10

We had our mid sem crit on the 23rd of August. It was a very helpful crit and it helped us answer a lot of our own problems we had.

So after the crit, we continued to experiment with the different ways to inflat a plastic bag. We tested with helium and also blowing air into the bags with hair dryer. Apart from that, we also experimented with the different connections such as connecting a long row of bags with a sealer then with a sewing machine. We tested with the tubular forms and also our original floral patterns.

draw string connections

Since we all agreed on one connection our next task was to make LOTS of it.
So we came up with a systematic way of connecting the bags. They were connected in groups of four with draw string through them.

testing bag connections

We are back to testing the different connections of our bags - our previous way of connecting proved to be too simple and not interesting enough. We finally manged to buy our bag sealer and managed to do a variety of different tests.

One of the test that all three of us including our tutors were interested in was the draw string connection.
